Conception Convo with Brooke Schreiber

Welcome to the Conception Convos: a series of recorded conversations about conception and the many roads that people take on their journeys to create their families. My goal is for people to share their stories in a raw and mostly unedited way (not just because I’m not a video editor, ha!) so that others can find solace and inspiration from their experiences, and most importantly, know that they are not alone on their fertility journeys.

Today’s conception convo features Brooke Ricker Schreiber.

Brooke teaches in the English department at Baruch College, CUNY. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, she has lived all over the US, as well as having taught English overseas. She moved to Brooklyn with her husband Constantin in 2016, and her daughter Maja was born in 2019.

I had the joy of providing doula support to Brooke last December and am particularly touched to share her story today because it happens to be her daughter Maja’s first birthday!

Watch or listen to Brooke’s interview for:

  • details on the clinical experiences of IUI and IVF

  • strategies for coping with the emotional rollercoaster of fertility treatments, including finding humor in the process

  • the fertility journey as a catalyst for self-reflection and growth

Brooke is an eloquent and insightful speaker and she shares her story with humor and grace. Enjoy!
